nature photography ( mainly birds) found in New Brunswick, Canada
The smallest of buteos
with a big sounding name
Viewed from its back
I glimpsed the one, white band on its tail
Gliding off into flight
it displayed its dark-edged underwing
A Broad-winged Hawk

Great pictures! Reading your blog is always like reading a good guide book, full of interesting information on identifying birds with great illustrations :-)
Thank you Mary:
As a retired teacher sometimes I want to write, 'The lesson for today is!', for I love using this 'show and tell' media :-)
Beautiful, beautiful.. thanks so much
You must have been a very good teacher...it shows here :-)
Beautiful photographs of the Ospreys and Broad-winged Hawk! Great for identification purposes, too. :)

I wasn't sure what this hawk was when I took its picture but after checking it out in field guides I found it had enough significant identifying characteristics for me to be able to id it.
stacey:
Glad that you enjoyed.
