When I first saw a Primrose Moth from a distance, sticking out of the blossom of a Common Evening Primrose flower , I thought I had discovered a new wildflower. It was only when I got up close that I realized that it was a beautiful pink and white moth! So every year since then, as soon as Common Evening Primrose begins to bloom along the roadsides I immediately start checking the blossoms for Primrose Moths. Last week I found one in the first blossom I looked at! And then I found several others as well.
That is way cool! Never saw such colors in a moth! Great shots!

ReplyDeleteI had always associated moths with grey dingy things and moth balls that my mother used to use; but I am now changing my mind big time over the past few years.
That has to be the most beautiful moth that I've ever seen! Wow!...pink and cream! It's one of nature's unexpected marvels for sure. I can see why you would mistake it for a flower! It is really lovely to look at! It certainly likes those flowers...that last shot with it way up inside is funny.

ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite moths and I wait for them every year, its fun to find them and sometimes I find two in one blossom. I think they're inactive in the daytime and they're probably asleep. I don't think I've ever detected movement from any that I've seen. It makes its much easier for picture taking that way.
WOW, what a beatutful moth! I have never seen a pink one! I'm wondering if we even have these in our area..
ReplyDeleteWith no butterflies around, maybe I need to start looking for Moths..
I don't think I've ever seen a primrose so I've never seen this moth. I looked at the pictures before I read and was thinking... that looks like a moth! LOL! that's really incredible.
ReplyDeleteGreat photography and great images. I check your blog often and it is always great, Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog & great photos! I discovered it, today, searching for info on Primrose Moths. I just found my first ones yesterday, on the lone Evening Primrose plant near my home in rural New York state, near the intersection with Massachusetts & Connecticut. Like you, when I first saw the pink color, I thought it was a flower or leaf, part of the plant. Good camouflage on the moths' part! They are really lovely!
