Cabbage Whites

The woods and roadsides are scattered with Asters
beautiful blues accenting the late summer Goldenrod
and fluttering Cabbage Whites and Common Yellows
flit about in the afternoon sun with programmed purpose

  1. Nice photos of a butterfly I see often but have great difficulty photographing--they don't sit still for me. Happy first day of fall! Joan

Great shots, especially the top one - that is one of the most artistic photos of a butterfly I've seen! BTW, I have a mystery grasshopper posted today, if you have a chance to stop by, love to hear what you think.

Thanks for the info on tree crickets. I didn't know of them, but a Google image search shows a number of very similar "grasshopper-y" looking candidates. Others look a little like those flying termite queens or lacewings, so there must be quite a lot of variance. Anway,I'm glad to know about them -ain't blogging grand!

  4. This may be one set of photos that look to me like they could have been taken right here :-) I have similar scenery and butterflies right now. Usually we are separated by at least a month of differences in our shots. Lovely captures. I never get the whites and yellows to open up!

  6. My favorite is the next to the last photograph. The top photograph looks odd with the wings so pointy, butterflies can look so different second to second.

  9. Great shots. I'm impressed because I never seem to see one of these that will land anywhere near me. Maybe it's me (sniffing underarms...). LOL!

  10. Wonderful, I love those contrasts between the butterfly and the bird. Such beautiful colors.
