This didn't look like a happy scene outside my window early this morning. A heavy overnight frost has finally taken its toll on my small, optimistic, Sunflower in the RED, earthenware pot, and the forlorn look on the face of my frosty, black, ceramic cat told me a story of a definite downswing in temperatures and chilly exteriors. The pumpkin purchased for a Thanksgiving decoration, has now become a marker for the rapid approach of Hallowe'en.
The beautiful, colourful leaves of the changing foliage is a constant reminder to us that this is a season of change, and also a season of movement for many birds. To acknow -ledge the large migration of birds to more southerly regions we created three, large, wooden Snow Geese several years ago to use as part of a seasonal outdoor decoration. This year we added some new coloured leaves to the ribbon around their necks before attaching them to the front of our garage.
This is a wonderful season to celebrate no matter what event you may choose to focus upon.

I love that first little vignette even with a frosty sunflower!
ReplyDeleteNice narrative.
Love the header.
The wooden snow geese are so wonderful !! (I have white farm geese as decoration on a lot of my kitchen things) The photo of the frosted scene is real good, with the forlorn looking ceramic cat, yes, all of it in this photo makes just a perfect scene.
ReplyDeleteLovely top pic:)
ReplyDeleteWonderful photographs. Well composed, well reported and sharp as the edge of a frosty cat claw.
ReplyDeleteBrrr.
Nice having a snow goose for a season symbol. I have seen them leave for now, flowing in a snowplow shape. A mighty sight.

Beautiful photos! And signs of autumn and Halloween:) My Ruby Tuesday is HERE. Happy RT!~
ReplyDeleteI love those geese decorations! They really look nice with the leaves and ribbons! I need to shove some fall leaves into the wreath on the front door...I just add and subtract over the seasons :-) I like the little black cat, and at least the frost doesn't harm him :-) I didn't see the trunk in your previous post until just now! How lovely and what a neat way to remember the moment! I bet he really loves having his own black bear!
ReplyDeleteThe flower is a vivid red, even after the frost. The geese are decorated so nicely, hopefully the real ones offer an appreciative 'honk' as they pass overhead on their way to Virginia or wherever. Happy Ruby Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm....I love the contrast of the wilted sunflower and the pumpkin. Great interpretation of the seasonal change.
ReplyDeleteMy Ruby Tuesday entries are posted here and here. Please drop by if you have some time. Thanks a lot!
Love your reds Ann. I sometimes can't believe how many reds are out there, but once you look around there they are!
ReplyDeleteWe had a heavy frost here on Saturday, and they predict wet snow for tomorrow.
Beautiful how nature changes colors during season change.
ReplyDeleteHappy Ruby Tuesday!
I love the geese decorations. We had a freeze over the weekend so that is the end of the growing season and off into winter...Happy RT Ann..
ReplyDeleteHi Ann - I enjoyed your post, and especially the poignant first photo with the frosty cat and the drooping sunflower behind the pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteYour sunflower looks like mine. I finally did away with them yesterday. I do love your geese!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that lone sunflower all frosted up in that first shot!! LOVE your snow geese too!!
ReplyDeleteAll is turning red, and in a few days, white and frozen! Sun flower doesn't find sun rays anymore.
ReplyDeleteYour window decorations are perfect to illustrate Ruby Tuesday....approaching Halloween.
