Northern White Violets
I have been waiting for this beautiful wildflower to appear on my damp shady side lawn for that is where I found them last evening,Apparently they like those sort of conditions for growing. It seems I might be able to set my seasonal clock by their timely appearance. The photo at the top, which I have enhanced with the filter 'poster edges' was taken on May11,2008, exactly a year ago yesterday! Don't you think its delicate appearance is beautiful? I do. I also found a wild strawberry blossom in bloom this morning! And there are lots of Purple Violets in bloom now. To go for a woodland walk at this time of year is a delightful experience! I love finding wildflowers. I saw a Wood Aneome almost fully opened along a walking trail on the weekend. To take a picture of it is on my 'to do' list.
White violets are exceptionally beautiful. I have always loved them.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful wildflower!
ReplyDeleteWe have those violets growing all over the place, they even get in my potted plants and strawberry plant bowl. They are pretty and hardy. Helen
ReplyDeleteThey really are beautiful with that snowy white color and the purple veins. Isn't great to know tings like that are coming back every year and you can look forward to them?
ReplyDeleteThat Violet is exquisite.Woodland flowers are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,ruth
I love the white violets too. They grow in our yard, along our driveway and anywhere it's moist and at least partial sun. The macro shot is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love these, too, and am lucky to have them and the purples spreading in my lawn!
ReplyDeleteI posted goldthread yesterday, and took a shot of violets. We must have just about the same things out now. My photos were taken where I live, here in southern Maine.
ReplyDeleteWe have tiny white violets down in the marsh, and larger ones all over our yard. I love them.
What a sweet delicate flower! I love violets as well. I remember as a child my sisters and I went into the woods and collected a few for my mothers garden. They have spread and are all over the garden now.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are back to blogging..
They all sound delightful and yes I do love to go on woodland walks this time of the year. That little flower is super.
ReplyDeleteSeeing your photograph of the wild white violet made my heart melt. Gorgeous flower and equally gorgeous shot.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Anne.
Very pretty violet- I don't think that we have the species down here in Alabama. We have a white violet called the Confederate Violet that is a subspecies of the Blue Violet.
