Its red orbital ring and red gape are the features which led me to identify this gull as a California Gull. This bird also had yellowish greenish legs.

ReplyDeleteI’M FOND OF CERISE
For red my affection is great,
It’s puce and chartreuse that I hate.
I’m fond of cerise,
It makes a nice piece
Of clothing that looks just first-rate.

The picture makes 'him' look so proud and regal! I have to confess, that up until the time we moved to Alaska in the late 80's, I had no idea there were so many different varities of sea gulls, all so interesting and unique!
ReplyDeleteI think these Gulls get their red during breeding season. I never tire of Gull pictures either. Somehow I always have to get at least a few pictures every time I'm around them.
ReplyDeleteB..
That is a Ring-billed Gull, not a California Gull.
