Lepidotera and Wildflowers for Ruby Tuesday

Orange Hawkweed is probably my favourite wildflower and it was a beautiful sight when I saw this Northern Crescent feeding upon one.

The ruby colour is not as obvious in this photo but if you look very carefully you can see the ruby-tinged pointed edges of this Bunch Berry blossom. I think this moth may have been sleeping.

  3. Beautiful pictures! I was in a field yesterday that was full of butterflies but they were never still. I know so little about any butterfly except the Monarch.

  4. Very pretty! I can see why you like that wildflower! I really like the last photo with the moth and the white flower. They just look so right together. Both are great photos!

    I think that moth chose the perfect flower to land on as it brings out the beauty in both.

    I have a couple, actually three, butterfly field guides that is in constant use after I bring home a new bunch of butterfly photos.

    odat and brian;
    Glad that you both enjoyed.

  14. Beautiful photos. I think my yard had some orange hawkweed - I was wondering what it was. It was too far for me to get a decent photo but I kept wondering what those "orange dandelions" were... Maybe you have answered my question.

  15. I love the Orange Hawkweed. I used to pick bouquets of them, plus the yellow ones for my Mom as a child, and they small so sweet.

  17. I like that bunch berry blossom (nice alliteration!). The points on the leaf seem to show a variety of reds: garnet, ruby, dusty rose, crimson. Can't call it.

    the butterfly blends in well with the blossom. Could the markings on its wings be a brick red?
