rather its the wrinkled wood above that the moth is resting on. The wood didn't grow this way naturally, but as a result of a circular saw cut, the aged, graying wood looks like it is wrinkled!.
The white stripe on the underwing of this moth might give you a hint as to how it acquired its name!

That is a beautiful moth...I really like the color of it....might be fun to do in fabric for a quilt :-) I like the "wrinkled" wood also. It is intereseting to see patterns like that made by the saw. The two together are a lovely match.

It sure does look wrinkled. Unique moth, too... It's great to see how many different perspectives on the word wrinkled there are. I took the obvious road, I think.
