Tree Swallows Ready to Leave Home

A parent's work is never done while the little ones still live at home. These young baby Tree Swallows are about ready to fledge and every day now, at least one, sometimes two or even three spend much of their waking hours with their heads sticking out of their bird house waiting for food to be delivered to them! I am fortunate to have a grandstand seat to all of the action each year as this Tree Swallow house is in our own garden.

What lovely photos. The top one, with the three faces crowding out of the bird house is my favorite.

  2. I love that first photo! So very, very cute with their little faces all looking out! How fortunate you are indeed to have them right in your own garden! We'll expect more pictures as they grow and leave!

They are set to leave any day now. It is always at the end of June/first of July when this happens.

I am pleased for I have never gotten a picture of three sticking their heads out before!

  4. Such a great family. I also have a swallow house right outside our bedroom window, and we're waiting for our gang to leave too.

  7. Great pictures! It sure looks as if it is time for the babies to leave. What a lot of work feeding those big teenagers ;-)

  9. Oh how fun. You are lucky to have them. I have tried to host swallows for the last few years, but haven't had any luck. I see them around some, but it must be too urban. My chickadee family has fledged, and are active at the suet everyday. The parents are still showing the juv.'s the ropes. Baby birds are so cute!

  10. What a beautiful, intimate series of photos into a bird's world. Lovely. Must be glorious to watch the process.
