I really need one of these trees! I just love all the beautiful photos you are getting of the birds that eat the berries! It looks like all the large birds like them for sure.
mary: I am really hoping for Pine Grosbeak, Evening Grosbeaks and Cedar and Bohemian Waxwings! I would love to get them on my October list before the month is past and the berries are all gone. today it is Robins and Starlings again. This tree is practically at the edge of our deck. I can sit by the window with a cup of tea and have my camera nearby. Its a lovely view ;-)
We are lucky enough to have a Mountain Ash, too. The Robins and Cedars just adore the berries. The Flickers and a few of the Finches also snack on the berries!
rambling woods: We haven't had them yet this fall, but, "yes", we have them often at other times. Where we lived previously we had a couple of large Mountain Ash trees and an ornamental crabapple. Each year a horde of Evening Grosbeaks would arrive and stay for a few days until all the berries were gone! It was quite a sight!
WE had a Mountain Ash, but it didn't make it. One side had berries, and the other didn't. I never did see any birds in it though. Those colors in yours are supurb, and the Robins from here have all gone South.
Ann, that ash is amazing. It's like the buffet at an open house -- everyone in the neighborhood stops by for a quick bite at one point or another. Beautiful pictures!
