Strands of Ice: for Watery Wednesday

Stands of ice crystals have formed this multi-layered necklace at the top of an open channel in the river. Like a stopper at the neck of a full bottle, the process is nearing closure.
If you click on the photo above to enlarge it, you can see a channel of ice that has already been formed in this manner shown above. I have used a filter to highlight the frozen channel and you can see a river of ice within a river!
Further up the river, this open channel will complete the same process if the temp- eratures stay cold, for already small patches of slushy ice can be seen floating on the watery surface.

The theme of Watery Wednesday is water, and for a wonderful variety of watery scenes just click on its name! Thanks to 2sweetnsaxy for hosting this site.

Wow...those are some cool shots! Must be really cold up there right now. That first one does look like a necklace of many strands :-) You'll laugh at my little dusting of snow, but at least I finally got a bit. I'm glad we don't get enough cold to freeze the rivers. Brrrr.

Very nice; it must be really cold where you are! Brrrr! You've done a great job capturing nature at work. I'd love to see the river in the springtime after all the snow melts. Greetings from Calif. Linnea

I see the frozen river in the center. I guess I never paid attention to such things. Great catch Ann.
Snowing here again, after a few days of freezing rain.
