male hummingbird for Ruby Tuesday

This species has been shown before, but this glimpse of a young male Ruby-throated hummingbird perched in a tree appears to be so refreshing and new that its seems appropiate to post its image again for my red contribution to RubyTuesday. Please click on the picture to enlarge for a closer view.

Clearwing Hummingbird moth

This is the first clearwing hummiunbird moth I have seen this summer. I found it in what used to be my favourite Milkweed patch. i say" used to be" for two years ago the plants were all cut down in the fall! I was pretty excited this spring to see a renewal of what appeared would be the regrowth of this favourite milkweed patch. My disappointment was great when checking on the patch one day in early summer to see the plants all mown down again. Not all of them though for today I found a few blossoms among the greenery of a few plants continuing on. I haven't seen any Monarchs there though but I did see this clearwing moth there today. What a joy it was!

Red in my garden for Ruby Tuesday

I took this photo too early this morning before this beautiful red lily has had time to fully open. Maybe I will insert
another photo later in the day when it is more fully open( and here it is above!. Regardless of when the photo was taken the lily's beautiful red colour can be seen

We have been working on putting up a fence surrounding our yard the last few weeks. My husband is the builder and worker and he loves to enhance our gardens with things with beauty,a bit different or unique. He has built this lovely red torii gate over our back entrance.
We hope this gate conveys a welcome to family and friends to the peace and serenity to that we find in our garden.

A Primrose Moth and an Eastern Kingbird for Outdoor Wednesday

Yesterday I drove about 2 kilometers(It was too hot to get out of my car and walk) along the shoulder of an old country road with my car window open studying the common primrose plants growing there on the graveled shoulder. Each year as soon as I see Primrose in bloom I start to look for the beautiful little pink and cream-coloured moth that thrive on ( or in these blossoms). Yesterday I only foundfour and took these pictures from my car window, wishing that I had brought along my closeup lens with me. I have noted to do that another day. . Each photo or blossom contains two moths each. I was surprised I saw so few moths! but was thrilled when I saw their beautiful pink sticking out of the blossoms!

Earlier this week I saw two Eastern Kingbirds on wires near an old barn that I have been studying ( to see this old barn please go to my posting on another of my blogs) here:http://ancestrallinks.blogspot.com/2010/07/barn-building-for-remember-whensday.html
I wasn't sure of the id of the Kingbird but I was quite sure it belonged to the flycatcher family as I watched the bird leave its perch on the wire and drop to the grass below to catch something. then after downloading the photos
I noticed the white tip of the bird's tail. Also the bird's black head sealed the bird's id in my mind: An Eastern Kingbird. I hadn't seen one in a long while.

Hollyhocks:a shade of red for Ruby Tuesday

When i frst saw this black tipped hollyhock blossom(like a lead pencil tip) I was quite excited for I once had a black hollyhock which I hadn't seen in bloom for years.

But the more I studied these blossoms I detected a hint of reddish, wine colour around their centers and had to acknowledge to myself that my brother in Alberta had sent me holyohock seeds one year which had wine or marron coloured blossoms when they grew.. I had to leave go of the delight of my black blossoms and accept the reddish hued shade of hollyhock petals such as was easily seen with this photo below taken this morning as being the ones that my brother Clair had sent..I have always loved hollyhocks. It is the first garden flower I knew. My mother always had some growing against the house by the back door. These old pictures of me when I was about 5 years old has helped bind hollyhocks to my memory
Intermingled with my memories of hollyhocks are memories of my grandfather

Yellow blossoms in my garden for mellow yellow monday

The center of this Tiger Lily holds the gold
!Its like looking at the sun andthe pollen covered stamens hold the gold dust. We have lots of these golden centered lilies in our garden. Aren't they lovely?
Yellow coneflowers. If I were to count all of our tiger lilies and yellow cone flowers I don't know which flower would win the highest number. They are all so beautiful! This yellow coneflower above is very full with petals and fluffy headed. It is in the same location where I had found it last year. I shall have to save some of its seeds this fall and spread it around. Its lovely! This sun drop has attracted a visitor! This little green grasshopper has found it to be an attractive resting spot!
And a yellow lily. Finding a place here on its own colour merit.Another yellow lily, a bit of a different tint from the one above!
Another yellow blossom which I hope proves very fruitful and produces yellow tomatoes. I started these plants from seeds in
March inside my house and they have been slow in blossoming but now I'm hopeful that tomatoes will develop soon as the plants are now outdoors in pots. Maybe a yellow tomato picture sometime in August for my mellow yellow contribution!

garden reflections for Weekend Reflections

This isn't a current picture as my garden globe has been broken since this was taken and I miss it dearly for it is wonderful to view the reflections of my garden in it, as this time of year our garden is a daily focus..

Weekend Reflectionshttp://newtowndailyphoto.blogspot.com/:is a meme where you can view beautiful reflections captured by others. Just click on the logo on the right to see what others have captured with their cameras. Today promises to be a fine sunny one, I hope you fare as well with your weekend weather.

About the header: A flying dove with a flower in its beak.

I would like to express my thanks and admiration to my 5 year old grandson, David, for allowing me to use his beautifully completed mosaic tile art work,David used a commercial kit with pstterned sheets and and coloured tiles; this DJECO mosaic product can be found at.http://www.flyingfoxstudios.com.au/foxshop?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=11&category_id=13 David told me he worked really hard on it and he is very proud of his completed work! Well done, David!" I can also realize that this picture is probably what had prompted his question to me," If a raven were flying with a flower in its mouth , then how could it breathe if the flower petals covered its nose?" Good question , David!

A different sunset view

The setting sun was very strong when I glimpsed it through the leaves as they were moving gently with the evening breeze. The light seemed to filter into this multitude of golden orbs as my camera recordered its light.

A Groundhog for camera critters

This little critter is a garden resident of ours. I have named him Munchie for he likes to munch for lunch on our garden. We believe his favourite menu items are hosta leaves. We don't see him often but this time he was photographed just outside our dining room window.
