Ducks and Geese ::: for Camera Critters

They are called Common Goldeneye, but I don't think so common in their beauty, and they could easily have been named 'Polka Dots' for look at the beautiful white dot on the head of these male ducks. We found this group yesterday in the Saint John River at Maugerville.Winging their way over the water these Megansers carried their reflections along with them as they took flight over the Saint John in response to the stopping of our vehicle along the roadside.Seeing these Canada Geese and Mallards was no surprise, but finding this lone, male Ring-necked Duck was. All of these photos were taken along the beautiful Saint John River in the Maugerville area yesterday.
My appreciative thanks to Misty for hosting this site. To see other participant's photo contributions just click HERE or on the Camera Critters logo on the side panel.

You see such a lot of different ducks, it is always interesting to visit and learn about them! I like your name "polka dot duck"...Maybe you should try quilting one out of polka dots :-) That photo of the mergansers flying and their reflections is great. Their black and white wings make quite a noticble impact. I saw water birds yesterday, too, but at quite a distance.

These are such wonderful photos. I don't think we even have ducks here that I know of. We only have nene geese which are nearly extinct, I think. I appreciate ducks and geese even more knowing that. Thank you for sharing your beautiful shots.

The goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) is a rare winter guest here (Flanders), here their name is "spectacles diver" (the white dots). Beautiful bird series.

Mergansers and Great Northern Divers visited us in winter and we would see Stormy Petrels on occasion.

Amazing shots Ann. The one of the Mergansers is especially eye catching with their reflections.
We don't see Golden Eyes around here either.
