Another returning species. and another photo taken yesterday; Thursday. I have been looking for an Osprey every day last week as there is an Osprey nest close by.Yesterday morning after getting our weekly groceries we visited an Osprey nest by and Wow! This was our lucky day!. There was one Osprey standing on the old nest! Welcome back, big guy! This Osprey has a bit of work ahead of it as the old nest did not winter well and must be repaired.
Today I shall drive out to Three Tree Creek to see if the Osprey has returned to its old nest there yet? soon I shall be able to watch these big birds fishing in the river here!

Each year at about this time we travel to the little community of Keswick Valley to take our income tax data to our accountant who has her office there. We always anticipate and look forward to this small adventure for nearyby are the Keswick flats. The Keswick Flats are often attractive to ducks and geese and we always hope to see some sort of bird life there. Today we were not disapointed as we found about 500 Canada Geese feeding there!
It was difficult getting a picture which would include all of the geese but these two photos posted above convey a bit of the scope of what we had seen.
Then my husband , David said, " Look for a white one". I hadn't thought to look to see if a Snow Goose might have been among them! And there was one! The white goose we saw, easily stood out! You can find it in the photo below
I would have not seen it if not for David's suggestion! "Thank You, David" This was a great sighting today! Snow Geese are not a common sighting in New Brunswick One lone Snow Goose is seen in the photo above!

I think of Pine siskins as quiet, non disruptive sweet, delicate looking birds,
what attracts me to them is their lovely colouring, otherwise some may view them as plain drab looking little birds.demure.. they have surprising yellow tinge about them. You would never refer to siskins by saying," there goes a yellow bird!" Seldom large splashes of yellow are seen, butinstead just a quiet slash of yellow striping on their wings. In the photo above yellow can be seen in their underwings as this sisking pushes off from a table to take flight. in the photo above the yellow seems to have been captured in more concentrated areas
the yellow in the photo above appears to be more subtle but it is there!
Got pictures with yellow that you would like to share? Why not post them on Mellow Yellow Monday, a delightful meme that focuses on the colour yellow?Just click here:http://mellowyellowmonday.blogspot.com/ to access this meme

Have you ever seen a squirrel smiling? This Grey Squirrel above and below appears to be a really happy fellow! Can you see the expression on its face? Wouldn't you be happy to find a whole pile of your favourite foods and no one came along to bother you while you were eating it!

Above in the distance, a reflection of the Burton Bridge ,where it crosses the Saint john river near the mouth of the Oromocto is seen reflecting in the river water.
We always go down to the waterfront when visiting Oromocto looking for ducks. Yesterday our search was rewarded with the sighting of many mallards as in this handsome pair shown below. above, the head of the male Mallard is reflected in the river water. although the reflection shows that the duck has its bill open it is not so. Perhaps this puzzling reflection was caused by the rippling effect of the water?!
The closed bill of this female Mallard remains closed in its reflection, no mystery there to confuse us.

The product name of my birdcam is Wingscape and considering these two action photos of Blue Jays in flight; the name wingscape seems totally appropriate. I was delighted to see the flight action captured in both of these photos. The fun thing about the birdcam is the surprise you encounter sometimes when you download the photos. Directly above the Blue Jay at the top of the photo appears to be in total flight as it flys away. And the photo below was captured this morning. I applied a photoshop filter to this photo. The filter I used was in the strokes category called 'zigzag' and I liked the wavy motion this filter gave to the edges of the Blue Jays wings. Just click on the photo to enlarge it and you can see what I mean.

This little male downy woodpecker is a daily visitor. The female of this species is often present also, but I only feature the male here as it is only the male that has the red markings on the back of its head. This little fellow had been hungry when our peanut feeder was empty, he would actually go to the other bird feeders to eat. Just as soon as the peanut feeder was filled he showed up right away. Perhaps I'll add more pictures of this little fellow today when he shows up this morning.
