A Red Squirrel Feast for Camera Critters

This little red, furry creature was peering at me through the branches of our aged Lilac tree, and after perhaps perceiving some sort of security it scrambled through the tree over to the old, tall Cranberry. Taking a delectable looking red berry in its paws, while it perched comfortably upon the crook in its branches, it began contentedly eating.
Standing on my tip toes, so as to avoid the screen on the lower half of the window, we were almost eye to eye, with just a couple of meters, a pane of glass, and the camera lens separating us. I somehow felt I had stumbled onto the pages of a childhood nature tale as it held the stem of the berry so properly as it ate.My appreciative thanks to Misty for hosting this site. What a cutie! I'd like to see a red squirrel some time. They look much smaller than my Fox Squirrel. I like that close up...it looks like a drawing. He seems to enjoy those berries.

We haven't got any red squirrels around here, although I believe there's some in the north, the grey squirrel seems to have taken over.

Great shots! :)

Awesome photos. Aren't they amazing to watch !!

I never saw them in the wild until I moved to the US. Only time I'd ever seen them was in the zoo. Just not the same..

I LOVE this post! This series of photos is spectacular. I love watching and photographing squirrels and I really like how you compared it to "a childhood nature tale". AWESOME post, my friend.

The sketch looking one was created with Photoshop by using the 'rough edges' filter. It works best I think if the subject is really close up. Glad you enjoy! Thanks for your comment.
