Family Outings for Outdoor Wednesday
ONCE UPON A TIME , the time being yesterday morning, while driving along a road I spied a lone adult Canada Goose strolling along the roadside by itself. this was quite unusual I thought , At times it looked from side to side as if checking things out. The slow approach of my car didn't send it flying off so I realized there was perhaps more to see. the road, which I was on was bordered on both sides by water, so I looked to my left, and as I had surmised and hoped, I saw another adult Canada in the water there with 5 young geese so that was the reason the other adult was close by! . Perhaps it had been trying to entice the young family to follow him on the road. As I sat in my car and watched I saw the adult Canada that had been on the road join the family in the water there. Now we had a family group of seven on the water . As they swam further away getting out of my cameras range I decided to drive down the road a further kilometer to check out another pond . I hadn't been gone very long but when I returned, much to my delight I saw ahead of me on the road the family of seven walking upon the road in front of my car. How sweet they looked! At this point my camera displayed a message that my battery power was gone, and I didn't have a spare with me! Ah, the despair I felt!. But by taking out the battery and putting it back in gave my camera a bit more power. Thank goodness. What a terrible time to not be able to take any more pictures. the family continued walking up the road ahead of me.I loved watching the little ones following along lifting their feet in rhythm of the adults ahead of themAs I have mentioned, in this location there is water on both sides of the road and I could see that the adult geese were heading for the water on the right. It was as if their built in gsp said," turn right", and they all did!
AS I watched the adult geese led the little ones under the guard rail as they left the roadto go into the water there. For just a secoond or so the 5 young were left on the road by themselves before they joined their family in the water there. This was the end of the story as they swam away. What fun and luck it was to find this little family on their outing of crossing the road to the water on the other side.I decided it was time to return home to recharge my camera battery, but before getting there I decided to check out another water area on my way home as I hadn't been there for quite a whilw. Much to my delight I saw a family of Goldeneye swimming there. An adult female and her nine young! It was quite a day of family outings in our great outdoors. and luckily I was there.

That was delightful! So lucky you were there.
Your pictures are amazing. I love these Geese. I'm from Toronto and we have lots of them everywhere, they actually stop traffic.Last week I saw some adorable lil' ones, so cute. I'm now a follower of your blog, thanks for sharing.
Ah....what sweet families! The geese scare me so, they way the parade their families back and forth across roads! Some drivers just don't pay attention.
Hi Ann, one of natures most beautiful sights. Your photos were great and I am so glad you had just enough power to take them. I'm recharging mine right now after forgetting to do it overnight. I have been taking photos of all the activity at my bird feeders this morning and noticed the camera was getting a bit sluggish. It was probably telling me to give it a break already ;)
They are so pretty and precious. I love Canadian geese. There's a back road I used to take, when taking the girls to school that had geese in a near by pond. One day on my way home from taking them to school, one of the geese was in the road. It just stood there. I rolled down the window and said "shoo goose" but it stayed. finally it started walking away but stopped dead center of my car staring me down. So i blew the horn, when i did, that goose started honking, and never moved. everytime I tried going around it slowly it would move in the same direction. I sat there 15 minutes at least with that goose, till it finally moved. A few weeks later, I saw its babies. I had so much fun with it though. it was quite an experience!
Another time, we came up to some at the lake, and one started hissing at us chasing us away. it chased my daughter all over the place. I think they are truly beautiful though
You had quite the day! I love your photos, it's like reading a story with photos, love it!

What a wonderful story and marvelous photos! You should compile some picture books for children with your lovely photos! It would be a great way to show kids the natural world if they dont live in a place to see it firsthand!
Hi De Vona, Part of the reason I started this blog was to share my nature pictures with my grandchildren. It worked. One of our little guys looks at the blog pictures often and he loves nature.
Thank you for your fine comment. It is much appreciated. Ann

SO SO SWEET! The goslings look so soft. They look so cute all walking together. Wish I had been there!
How adorable! Love the story and the series of photos. How lucky for you to have happened upon them.

Great pictures.
I love to watch the geese. Since our winters have turned so mild we sometimes have them year round here.
