Black Bear

I have seen Black Bear twice this fall, within the past few weeks, but they were too quick for me both times and I didn't get any pictures. I have only been able to take pictures of a Black Bear once, and that was a couple of years ago, in October 2006. The pictures taken at that time (Oct, 2006) are included below.

While out driving I had looked into a yard as I was passing by, alongside the highway, and thought I saw a black dog standing in it - but at the same time I was thinking, 'That dog looks like a bear'. Then realizing it really was a bear I shouted out loud to my two traveling companions; "That's a BEAR!!!"
What a great sighting! As I pulled off onto the shoulder of the road and quickly grabbed for my camera the bear started to run across the field adjacent to the yard it had been in. I was able to get only a few pictures as it quickly ran away. That was my first time, an only time, photo capture of a bear. What a wonderful photo experience it was!

This Black Bear has since ended up on the inside of a trunk lid that we refinished and painted for a little grandson.

WOW! That had to be quite exciting!!
Great captures too! I think I would have had blurry pictures just from shaking so much with excitement!!

OH, my....great photos, but I'm not real sure if I want to see one or not that close anyway. I guess I do....but at the same time, I hope not in my yard :-) Certainly shows we need to keep the camera in the car. I'm getting better about that. Lovely shots for being in a hurry!

It was very exciting and I was very pleased to get what I did for there was a lot of action all at once for as soon as my casr pulled onto the highway shoulder it started to run!

I always have my camera with me and I have taken a lot of pictures from my car! And, no, I wouldn't want to be too close to one; from the inside of my car is good enough for me too.

Wow, great shots. I can imagine how exciting that must have been. How cool that it was running from you than towards you.

You did fantastic on this series. My brother saw a bear in lower Westchester County New York, which is heavily developed. I wouldn't have believed him (very unusual) if he hadn't grabbed his camera and gotten a few shots. I am never that fast!

Stunning pictures. You must have been swift with both your car and cam!
I'm impressed. Tried to catch an eagle flying low in front of our car last Sunday. Great , big failure, but also a breathtaking sight.

Nothing compared to a black bear though.

Great pictures.I wouldn't want to meet a bear on a walk and if I did I wouldn't be taking pictures! We did have one in the city last year and it was seen behind a pizzeria near the hospital where I work. There was a massive search for it but the bear followed the river and escaped.

How exciting to see a bear, and a bit scarey too. My sister who lives in town has seen 2 of them in her back yard. They smashed her birdfeeders, and made a real mess of things.
I've been wondering if you ever see the fox family any more?

Your grandson is going to treasure that trunk. I'm not so sure I want to see a bear..but I guess from inside the car is ok. It's too bad that loss of habitat is causing more bears to be in places that conflict with humans and the bears lose...

Lovely bear photos. I like the box, something for generations to pass along.
