Brown-headed Cowbird

Newly arrived in our feeder area yesterday were two male Brown-headed Cowbirds The

females, with a plumage of a dull slate grey, have yet to arrive. Cowbirds do not build nests but lay their eggs in the nest of other birds leaving them the chores of feeding their young. Accompanying the Cowbirds yesterday were Grackles and Red-winged Blackbirds.
Also a new spring sighting for us yesterday were female Red-winged Blackbirds. Previously this spring we had only seen male Red-wing Blackbirds. Above, seen with the male cowbird, is a female Red-winged Blackbird.
