Temporary Waterfalls: For Watery Wednesday

The sign may warn of falling rock, but this time of year it is falling water. All along the roadside cliffs just across the Kennebecasis River from Gondola Point, New Brunswick, there are temporary waterfalls caused by the spring melt. Some start far, far up the hill deep in the woods and are quite spectacular. I find the photos do not do justice to how great the water was to watch ... and of course the sound was wonderful.

Nice photos - I assume the water disappears under the road?

That is more impressive than the similar ones I have seen here in Ontario!

These types of falls always have a wonderful presence to them. They totally beckon me to stop and visit them just as they seem to have done for you too. Beautiful.

I love the spring waterfalls. In a few weeks Hubby and I will make our spring pilgrimage to Yosemite and there will be many such waterfalls. When we return in the fall, nearly all will be gone. Only two flow all year.

As near as I can tell the water runs along the bottom of the hill at the side of the road down a slope in a ditch. Also some goes through a culvert or drain that must be somewhere I can't see, as on the other side of the road there is a pipe which shoots water into the river. The road really is right on the side of a cliff. Thanks for all the comments. Riel

I know what you mean. The sound of the pure water is something that cannot be expressed.

Wow!...those are pretty neat for temporary. I would be stopping traffic to take photos :-) That second one is lovely. It was so good to have your mom back on-line for a day....and I bet you were thrilled to have her back in the house for a few days.

Reminds me of some of my travels in B.C. - that's the only other place I've seen anything like this. Just beautiful, and I'm sure very fresh-smelling and musical!

I think it is very unusual to see waterfall that fall down to where one can see the yellow dividing line on the roadway!! Your second photo is quite a conversation piece!!
I bet it takes some by surprise...especially hearing it before you would see it!!
Neat post! :)

How wonderful! I would love to see something like that. I'm looking at the photos though, trying to figure out where the water is going. You would think it would be all over the road.

I think I should have looked more carefully at how it was draining. I'm sure if it overwhelmed the ditch it would be on the road ... just hopefully not much of it!

More gorgeous shots Riel. Water flowing makes for good pictures.
Hope your Mom can come home for Easter.
