Big Red Machines for Ruby Tuesday

On the weekend we attended a horse pull or the termI am most familiar with is a' horse haul' |The contestants, teams of work horses. were required to pull heavy loads a designated distance. Durin the pull or haul I had my eyes on two red tractors which were pulling the heavy sled back in place after it had been pulledby a team of horses. a team of contestantsduring their pull.

This big red tractor had to pull the heavy laden sled back in place after a team of horses had successfully pulled it.

The sled above with its load weighed 6,600 pounds. Each cement block weighed 600 pounds as did the sled itself. The job of this smaller red tractor above was to place more cement blocks on the sled as the competition progressed.

A good day was had by all.

School bus Reflecttions for Mellow Yellow Monday

Its beeen ten years now since I have been retired from teaching and the sight of yellow school buses rolling down the roads at the end of summer no longer stir me. They're just another sign that summer is 0ver. I always think of the youngest passengers on the buses and how excited they will be embarking upon their long adventure of education. May it be a journey filled with learning, excitement and may it be a fulfilling experience preparing them for the many roads they will travel down in their lifetime. Best wishes for all students and teachers for the coming school year. I do miss it a bit.

Shadows within a covered bridge for Shadow Shot Sunday

The interior of this old covered bridge is totally within shadow.Just within the entrance of this covered bridge a pattern of light can be seen on the hardwood flooring of the bridge.

The souce of light creating the pattern on the bridge floor is from the spaces between the boards at the end of the bridge's construction.

BeltedKingfisher against the blue sky for Skywatch Friday

This was a lucky photo day when standing by the edge of a pond looking for a Great Blue Heron that had quickly disappeared at my approach an often elusive Belted Kingfisher landed on a branch nearby and I was there to capture this contribution for Skywatch Friday.

Green for Green Thursday

The beautiful green of the Milweed leaves above provide a perfect setting for what I think is a newly hatched monarch butterfly. Its colours made it appear very bright and fresh and new appearing. The milkweed plant is a host to the eggs of a monarch butterfly.
WhatI like about this picture above is its beautiful 'greenness". At the location of this small pond we often find one or two Great Blue Heron. They are too fast for my camera to capture their image.

Summer's End for Ruby Tuesday

My youngest grandson is sitting here by the water's edge wearing his red and yellow lifejacket looking very thoughtful with a rosy tinted sky beyond. He is a great outdoors boy enjoying all of nature's wonderful and fascinating features. Perhaps his thoughts are similar to these below as his family's summer vacation time draws to a close. Thanks go to my son Davis for the great photo he willingly shared.

Where has summer gone
will it be back again soon?
or do I have to wait until next June ?
It was so much fun playing in the summer sun,
Visiting with my New Brunswick family and also my Ontario one.
I can't believe its almost done

Yellow in my garden for Mellow Yellow Monday

On the weekend I bought myself a new little Canon Powershot SD 780IS , one of the features on it will isoate snd highlight a colour and leave the rest black snd white. I had fun in my yard finding yellow to highlight. I am finding the menus on the camera difficult to use and access , but I am having fun figuring it all outThis flowerbed below is full of yellow coneflowers. The fireplace was the scene of marshmallow roasts earlier this month.Yummy!
Golden Rod worked well with this camera feature

Cormorant in Drainage Pipe Shadow for Shadow Shot Sunday

Earlier this week we had visited my favourite pond area hoping to get pictures of a Great Blue Heron that we knew was there. The heron we saw but it flew off as soon as it saw us. A moment later, a Cormorant flew in within camera range . I was hoping it would swim inside the huge drainage pipe's shadow there and it did creating a lovely scene for Shadow Shot Sunday.

Sunset for Skywatch Friday

Yesterday eve I was standing by the kitchen sink taking my evening medications when I looked out the window and saw the sunset hues above the tops of our driveway trees. It was definitely an invitaion from Mother Nature to grab my camera and go out for an early evening stroll. It was just before nine and the street lights were just coming on. I only walked as far as the railroad crossing. It was a beautiful evening for a walk at the end of another hot summer day.

cool water for Watery Wednesday

My quest this morning was two fold. 1]To find as watery source to photograph for Watery Wednesday and 2]to find a cool refreshing spot. The first location was easy. I asked my husband to drive me to Peterson's Rocks. ( Since a stroke in February.. I still have not received permission to drive yet so my picture taking adventures have been definitely limited this summer. The photos above were taken at Peterson's Rocks. This is an inviting small local park where the river bed is solid rock, mostly flat. This is an inviting location for wading and swimming for little kids with adult supervision required as there are a few deep places. Deciding to drive to a nearby pond to look for ducks led us past a potato field which was being watered with a magnificent spray of water. The motion of the water flow appeared very rhythmic in its movement over the field as if it were a dance performance taking place.

In some parts of the field it looked like a curtain of water. Further suggesting a performance tsking place before our eyes.

leaping striding, stretching reaching plumes of water jetting to and fro. Curtains of mist close over the stage , an audience of appreciative potato plants having their thirst quenched from the leaping tossing moisture hurtling throughout the field

The white blossoms of the potato plants added much to the beauty of the drama unfolding before our eyes.Happy Watery Wednesday to all. Keep cool!We seem to be in the midst of a heat wave this week.

The settin sun on the eve of Ruby Tuesday

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
(words above from "O Canada" our Canadian national anthem.)
The red orb in the sky captured by attention last evening. It was so big and round in the western sky at the end of a daythat was so HOT! We finally have summer heat. Dare/I complain of the heat? Its going to be another scorcher today.Predictions are for the 32 degrees Celcuis range and THAT WILLmake for another hot and humid day again.. Maybe thunder showers later in the day will cool things off a bit.I hope so. Happy Ruby Tuesday to all.

Golden Golden Glo for Mellow Yellow Monday

Thse beautiful prennial has been with my family for many years now. I dug it up in an abandoned homestead during the 80's and took it home with me. Since then it has survived another move[ transplanting]to my present home. My grandmother always had a beautiful Golden Glo beside her garden gate which we used to swing on much to her annonyance. This yellow beauty which is now very prevalent in my yard fills me with memories.

Viewing my Green Garden in Black andWhite for Green Thursday

Nature presents us with its artistic beauty in many ways. Sometimes people assume colour is the key to this artistry. Today I am looking at shape, contrast, lightness and darkness to view this beauty. Repetition is also an element to be consideredas is balanceof both positive and negative space space against, foreground and background.

My garden gives me much enjoyment as I wander around it looking for birds and butterflies which are also reaping the benefits offered by our inviting green environment.
