Where the Porcupine Stream enters the North Oromocto River. This beautiful view, is not that far away. I must return to this location in the fall when the area will be ablaze with rich autumn colours.

Common Mergansers for Watery Wednesday.

Each year Common Mergansers nest along our river. I am used to seeing the female Megansers with their broods along the river. This year I have had very few sightings. One day last week while crossing the highway bridge by car I saw a group of them in the river below.. Their reddish heads made their id unmistakable! They only stayed there long enough for me to get thid group photo before they swam away. I have been looking every day since the sighting since but have not seen them again.

Mountain Ash berries for Ruby Tuesday

ITS harvest time again for all the birds and wildlife that gather their food from Nature's bounty. You may have to click on these pictures to enlarge it to see the three waxwings gathered on the branches of this lush Mountain Ash tree. The berries on our tree in our yard have already disappeared to a flock of hungry Robins on the weekend.

Spotted Salamander for Mellow Yellow Monday

I seldom see a salamander. Yesterday we were looking along an old country road in a dry ditch searching for rocks to strengthen the area where we had put up a fence and my husband overturned a large rock and called out to me. " You better come and look at this!" I had just mentioned to him a few minutes earlier thatI had nothing to post for Mellow Yellow. I was delighted when I saw what he had found and viewed this magnificently designed creature with its yellow spots on black! I have since learned that this is the largest salamander in New Brunswick and the only one of the Salamander species with yellow spots! This species is widely distributed in New Brunswick. As we continued on gathering rocks he found another spotted salamander and a small black snake which probably was a garter snake, that I did not see as I had wandered away from where he was working.

Today is a most wonderfull day creating beautiful cloud reflections in the river.A soothing beautiful morning walk such as this always makes a significant difference to my blood pressure when I take it upon my return home.

Wet feet for Watery Wednesday

This little sandpiper/plover? wasn't the only one getting wet feet as the incoming tide washed over mine too as I was walking along scanning the shore line of this small Bay of Fundy Beach[Maclaren Beach] looking for beach glass. Finding these little birds there was a bonus! below a semi- palamated PloverWe didn't find any beach glass .

a round red Jam centered cookie for Ruby Tuesday

A delicious sugar cookie with a red jam center is my Ruby Tuesday contribution for today. And it being the nature of little children to like cookies this cookie makes me think of my little grandson who frequently told me when he was visiting this summer," I'm hungry for something circly!" This cookie is store bought and not of my making.

TWo-legged Tree Shadow for Shadow Shot Sunday

We have two slender trunked Tamaracks growing near the front of our driveway. This summer our three year old grandson referred to them as a tree with two legs. So seeing their shadow this morning reminded me of his comment and thus today's blog title.

Green Forests for Green Thursday

Yesterday we went to the coast and drove on highway #785 through forested woodlands to get there. The green forest looks blue in the far distance. There were many beautiful views a along this drive.The previous day we had driven up the Saint John river Valley to Hartland and there were many beautiful views of forested lands reflected in the still river there.

Geese in the Saint John River for Watery Wednesday

We had just crossed the longest covered bridge in theworld at Hartland,
New Brunswick when just a little further done the beautiful Saint John River at Cloverdale we found these beautiful geese in the water there.

Big Red Machines for Ruby Tuesday

On the weekend we attended a horse pull or the termI am most familiar with is a' horse haul' |The contestants, teams of work horses. were required to pull heavy loads a designated distance. Durin the pull or haul I had my eyes on two red tractors which were pulling the heavy sled back in place after it had been pulledby a team of horses. a team of contestantsduring their pull.

This big red tractor had to pull the heavy laden sled back in place after a team of horses had successfully pulled it.

The sled above with its load weighed 6,600 pounds. Each cement block weighed 600 pounds as did the sled itself.The job of this smaller red tractor above was to place more cement blocks on the sled as the competition progressed.

A good day was had by all.

School bus Reflecttions for Mellow Yellow Monday

Its beeen ten years now since I have been retired from teaching and the sight of yellow school buses rolling down the roads at the end of summer no longer stir me. They're just another sign that summer is 0ver. I always think of the youngest passengers on the buses and how excited they will be embarking upon their long adventure of education. May it be a journey filled with learning, excitement and may it be a fulfilling experience preparing them for the many roads they will travel down in their lifetime. Best wishes for all students and teachers for the coming school year. I do miss it a bit.

Shadows within a covered bridge for Shadow Shot Sunday

The interior of this old covered bridge is totally within shadow.Just within the entrance of this covered bridge a pattern of light can be seen on the hardwood flooring of the bridge.

The souce of light creating the pattern on the bridge floor is from the spaces between the boards at the end of the bridge's construction.

This was a lucky photo day when standing by the edge of a pond looking for a Great Blue Heron that had quickly disappeared at my approach an often elusive Belted Kingfisher landed on a branch nearby and I was there to capture this contribution for Skywatch Friday.
