Eastern Coyote: for Camera Critters
January 24, 2007, was my lucky day for I saw a handsome Eastern Coyote! I had been driving along the main highway and decided to check out a side road, which had open fields on both sides, thinking that I might possibly see some Snowbirds feeding there. Suddenly I saw movement to the left and, as I was braking and grabbing for my camera, a Coyote stopped abruptly, quickly turned direction, and headed for the woods bordering the field. After my first burst of pictures, I rolled down my car window just as it had reached the woods edge. Upon reaching relative safety it stopped momen -tarily to take a good look at me while I was taking several good photographic looks at it! What a beautiful sight it made through my camera lens! After watching my car for a few seconds it turned and loped off into the woods. Unlike a dog or a wolf, a Coyote runs with its tail pointed down and this was easily observed as it ran from view.
My appreciative thanks to Misty for hosting this site. To see other participant's photo contributions just click HERE or on the Camera Critters logo on the side panel.

These guys take so much flak (granted, a lot deserved) but they are so gorgeous, especially their full coats. I just love that first shot, where you caught him just shifts his weight - beautiful "pose"!!
He really is handsome! Beautiful shots.
He's gorgeous and you're lcuky to have seen him and to have made such awesome photos. The running shot is my favourite!
Nice catch Ann..I saw one here early morning...Beautiful misunderstood animal...
Such a beautiful critter! Great photos. Love his (or hers?) face. Beautiful!
I very much enjoyed your coyote photos.

A few years ago we went fishing on an old dirt road and we saw a pack of them. Of course I forgot my camera. :o(
Great capture. SO handsome.

What an amazing creature! Lovely and he posed so nicely for you!
What a great looking coyote! How exciting that must have been!
great shot! looks so handsome and smart.
You were quick with your camera! Coyotes don't usually hang around long if they sense a human can see them.
Wow...good get! Much healthier looking than the coyote I ran into while in SF area (see my post from yesterday)...his picture doesn't show it, but he was scraggly.
Wow! What a wonderful experience for you and for us. Thank you for sharing.
Awsome images. Our coyotes seem to be more washed out in color. I saw one the other day but only long enough to think of a photo, not long enough to actually take even one.
Ann, How wonderful that you took that side road..and what a catch in your camera lens. Your photos are very nice. My heart rate would have been sky high trying to get all the best shots...lol. Interesting that he stopped to look your way..they are usually so skiddish..does he have something around his neck..I thought I could detect a rope, or something hanging from the rough around his neck..anyhow, great post.
it really did take a good look at you!
beautiful
Wow - what a magic day. I have to change my desktop background yet again!
Super pictures Ann. We had Coyotes around here a couple years ago, and sometimes they were really close howling at night, but I haven't heard them now for a long time. What a gorgeous animal.

This is a great capture..such good photos. I would have been so excited mine would have been blurry.
Great shots! I saw my first coyote on the side of a road and took pictures out of the window too. Your shots are much better.
